Why the Hell are gready dealers still trying to sell the new Dodge...

...Challenger at a $30k mark up? These guys really kill me. The economy is really bad, unemployment is at a 10 year high, and all auto sales are down and they (dealers) still try to milk it for as much as they can. Why in the hell would someone would pay an extra $30,000 for a car that will probably be damn near given away in the next 2-3 years?

This makes me laugh because the Dodge dealers in the bay area that have them, are having the hardest time trying to sell them, hmmmmm I wonder why (lol). Remember the Charger and the 300C, those things are just sitting at the lots with serious mark downs. I'll wait for the Challenger to go the way of the GTO and then pick up one really cheap.

I guess people pay a premium for saying they were the first to have one. Keep in mind these are the SRT models. The '09 base models and R/T models will be out in just a few more months, so no one will be paying a premium.

True

30k Over Sticker Is Dumb. My Store Is Recieving 9 Total. Everyone Has Been Sold For The Last 6 Months @ 10k Over Sticker. Thats Just The Name Of The Game. If You Want To Pay Sticker For One Wait About Another 6 Months When The 09 Models Come Out.

Do you really think that car is geared for the mid to lower middle class that the economy is hurting right now?

Even during the depression, there were still people buying cars and eating filet mignon.

I drove one of these for the day a couple weeks ago. It's not the kind of car a regular person would buy. It's for a well-off retiree type that could care less about mpg, because it only gets used on Friday or Saturday night. The looks you get in it though...
It's like most new hot cars. They get marked-up. Remember when the PT Cruisers were selling for over sticker! LOL

You really have to ask why someone would pay extra? Please, if you were a salesman and knew you could get 70k for a 40k car, you'd step over your best friend to do it. The commission alone would have you drooling.

No, the SRT-8's will not be "damn near given away" in the next few years but the lower models will. The area I live in is overloaded with true, old muscle cars: Chevelles, Mustangs, GTO's, Nova's, etc. and we have several car shows every weekend. Ferraris and even Bentleys are not that uncommon but even amongst that kind of money, I rarely see SRT's of any kind being driven much. I have only ever seen 1 SRT-8 Grand Cherokee, 2 SRT-8 Magnums and 1 SRT-8 300c in the area. NSRT-4's are all over the place, usually in the used car dealerships. Ha ha! The local Dodge dealer only received 2 CSRT-4's and they sat on the lot for months. I drove the first one they got in (black) but it didn't have the options I wanted and the estimated build date for mine was a 6 month wait. That car sat on the lot for 4 months before it sold and I've never seen it since. They also received a silver one but that was a pre-ordered one. They had an orange Challenger SRT-8, a black Challenger SRT-8 and a silver Challenger (not sure which model). The black one sold the day it came out, probably a pre-order. The orange SRT-8 sold in 2 days. The silver one is still sitting on the lot, not even being test driven. Hmmmm, wonder which cars will get marked down to sell?

I guess people are buying theSRT's and letting them sit in the garage with the hope that they can get big $$ 30 years from now.

I think the only SRT model geared for the true middle class working man is the CSRT4. Who wants a $600+ a month car payment even of the car is great. I have other thinks I enjoy doing besides paying way too much for a car.

I learned the hard way lol, I paid $31k for my CSRT-4, because I was blinded by it's beauty, and wanted to have the first one. If I had waited 6mths like my wife suggested I could have got it for $24k. Oh well, I guess my son will learn how to drive in 15 yrs with the old SRT lol.
