Winter Tires?

Next year, I am thinking about buying 18" R/T rims to put on in place of the 19's for the snow. Is that the best choice, or are there other rims and wheels I should go with?? thanks.

Re: Winter Tires?

You'll find cheaper aftermarket rims than the R/Ts. Eg, I found some 18" that are quite similar to the SRT4 ones. hey look great and cost half of the overpriced plastic R/T rims.

As for tires, I'm not too impressed with my Dunlop Graspic DS3. I would avoid those.

same thing i did, got some cheap 18" alloys, i used Hankook I pikes, really agressive tire, good in snow, not so good for dry road traction.

Re: Winter Tires?

Yeah. That's exactly what the DS3 are. The moment they hit cold nude pavement, they loose traction.

Re: Winter Tires?

I got a local shop to hook me up with some 18" steelies, super cheap. I went with some cheap Toyo Observe tires for the winter. They were rated pretty decent, and that's all they are. They're not the best, but they'll do for the next few years.

you wont find a snow tire that will grip in dry roads.

Probably not. Before the SRT4, I had 9 years of AWD so it's a bit difficult to adjust, sometimes.

Yeah. By the way the new guy sounded when I called, I missed the first guy by just a few days. Yeah, the new guy couldn't help me out, nor did he seem all that interested, either. It was a good try though, and I ended up getting a decent deal of $1,200 installed. At first I didn't think there were steelies available in 18"+, but that guy found some and hooked me up.

Re: Winter Tires?

I got the cheapest 18's from tirerack at 109$ each. and got blizzack lm-25 they are absolutely amazing in snow and slush and ice. stopped me from 40mph from hitting a deer in about 10 ft I just cleared it. they run great at autobahn speed 80-100 mph. and in my opinion they grip justfine on dry pavement still handle still grip. it's no summer tire but has definately won my vote.
