tranny fluid capacity

i picked up my new 08 Caliber SRT 4 a few weeks ago, and just last week i decided to check all my fluids meanwhile i already put over 1500km. i discovered i had no tranny fluid, stuck my finger down at least 2 inches and couldnt touch any fluid. i didnt notice any leaks or anything so i took it back to the dealer and it took 2 quarts to fill. now that the tranny is full it is leaking, so i guess maybe some seals dried up when the fluid was low? I thought the dealership would have checked the fluids before they sold me the car. guess i will have to take it back again. Does anyone happen to know the fill capacity? Hopefully she didnt starve to much.

Take it back and have them fill it properly. There is the fill hole then there is the fluid check hole, then there is the drain hole (damn it thats a lot of holes).

You cannot get to the point that you can feel the fluid from the top hole, you need to pull the plug just below the fill hole and check it there. They overfilled your transmission and now its leaking because of that.

It's a CSRT4........there's only one transmission available.

It takes ATF +4 if I'm not mistaken, or Dextron/Mercon IV. I can't remember for sure.

BTW, this information should be in your owner's manual.

lol chrysler service info does not tell me the capacity just how to change it...it does take atf +4 u can buy it at walmart now at dealer...i dunno if the mercon/dextron iv is the same or not

my bad they moved it here....

Getrag DMT6 MOPAR® ATF+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid 1.9 Quarts 1.8 Liters

heres this too....
When filling the fluid on the 6-speed DMT6 transmission do not use the rubber plug.
The proper fill plug is threaded and located just below the rubber plug

can anyone tell me if any of the gears has multiple cone assemblies?
double synchros?

has anyone tried running a thicker fluid for high rev shifting? has anyone had issues grinding at high rpm and if so, in which gear?

fill it with the unit level (the car level), until it leaks out the fill hole. Slight overfilling won't harm anything. it's not pressurized.

On the Differential side all gear wheels are helical toothed and are constantly engaged 5th, 6th and reverse gear have simple synchronization. 1st to 4th gears are double synchronized.

Re: tranny fluid capacity

The rubber plug is the hole used to fill the tranny. Its the only one big enough. The error that people commit is that they dont take out the steel plug just below the rubber plug. You fill it through the rubber plug hole with a hose. When the fluid just beggins to leak out of the "fluid level" hole right beneath the rubber plug hole thats how you know you have completed the fill to the level it needs to be at. The drain hole is a differnt steel plug at the lowest part of the tranny. I bought a clear vinyl hose with a 1/2 inside diameter at home depot and ran it up to the top of the engine with a small funnel attached. Makes the job real simple
and the hose fits inside the rubber plug hole perfect. Just make sure the steel plug below it is removed or you will overfill.
