| Senior Member | I'm with you! Other than maintaining an engine, totally changing stuff or creating stuff scares me just a little. Mainly because if I screw up... to the shop it goes. There is no one to help me work on my cali here in H-Town. Quote:

i got the tint from ebay. it was precut, and i installed it friday. i have to say, it is one of the worst tint jobs i've seen in my life. it's not easy to install at all. i'm gonna leave the tint to the professionals. the tint cost me about $40 including s/h. so that's $40 out the window (no pun intended). i didn't even have time to install my extra aux port for the radio. | |

| Senior Member | OH no! That is not good. Sorry to hear about that. Was it the tint itself or just that it was difficult to install? Quote:

| A couple of suggestions. Locate the MAF sensor in close proximity to where the original was located. Two reasons. The connector's wire length and possible quirks with the engine management system. The wire length is self explanatory. The second part is that some ECUs are particular about how far the MAF is from the intake manifold. I know that on a former car, my old RX-8, it was very particular in that K&N's first model of CAI made the car idle rough as the MAF was off a bit. Because of the way the Rotary works, this was not a problem as knock and ping caused by early detonation does not effect a rotary engine. This distance may make no difference on these engines but it doesn't hurt to keep to some standards. Another hint is to make sure the MAF sensor is facing the same direction when you install it in the custom intake. Putting it in backwards will not allow the engine to idle. This is from experience. When I did test it with just a cone filter on it, it didn't run any differently. Make sure you hook up all tubes that were fastened to the intake to this custom set up. Look for the parts, they have pretty much thought of everything. About the only thing I didn't like about the kit was the rubber gasket between each connection. Though neccessary, they were a bit hard from time to time to keep seated while connecting each piece. What I found easiest to keep them in place was to tighten up the connection ring just loose enough to allow the second piece to be put up against it and then press and hold as the allen bolt is tightened up. This assures an air tight fittment. |
