This is more or less a general technical question but it's related to a Caliber R/T...
With a quick glance it's easy to notice the CAT is bolted directly to the exhaust headers. So a cat-back system is essential the entire exhaust system. If I were to remove the cat and reprogram the computer (and ECU?) which value would be predominately associated to a potential performance gain and potentially better for durability of the motor-- Higher O2 readings or Lower? Any other comments will be greatly appreciated as well. Lastly, this is for a near-future upgrade to go along with a CAI system as well as a Stage I/II turbo. Thanks. |

does your car have more than one o2 sensor?
does it have one after the cat? I do not recommend removing a cat. there is a slight performance gain in SOME cases, but most worthy aftermarket exhaust systems include high flow cats that can reach high horsepower levels. it is not a requirement to alter the ecu in order to match the better flowing exhaust. the o2 (EGO) sensor gives the ecu feedback, when the ecu in closed loop mode. it tells the ecu whether the engine is running lean or rich. |
