crappy gas

i just brought a caliber sxt 1.8 manual three weeks ago and have roughyl 1500 miles on it. I drive roughyl 75 miles one way to work, all highway except for roughly 5 miles rural. I average 75~80 mph on the highway here in Florida and have been getting only 27~28 miles per gallon. I took the car on a road trip over the weekend and drove none stop on one tank of gas and only to 305 miles before I needed to fill up and it took 12.1 gallons. (Thats after I filled up before I left though my average speed was 80). So, needless to say, I love the car but am very upset about the gas mileage.

Just curious!
Does your Caliber fall under the group that require the software reflash,
and if so has it been done?
My sxt2.0L/CVT is turning in 24-25mpg US city and 32-33mpg US and
I have been told I drive like I stole it.
I have cruise and use it all the time!

Well I don't have the EVIC or Drivers convenience group either but it's
simply filling the tank and dividing the miles driven by the number of gallons
used since last fillup to calculate milage per gallon.
Regarding the reflash of the Calibers software that's can be determined
by its build date as shown on the sticker on drivers door,if it shows before
June 06 then it's probably a candidate for the reflash.
Another way is goto Dodge.com and check your VIN# against the recall
listings, numerous Caliber owners of those built previous to June 06
have had theirs reflashed with varying results.

Yes the DCG gives you mpg, tire pressure, compass, temp etc. and I believe
(might be wrong)that you have to order before build.
Have not heard anyone having it put in after fact as of yet.

math

When I want to find out my MPG i just record how much gas I put in it. How many miles I drive and how much gas I Put in it again. Than a few minutes on a calculator miles driven over gallons of gas and presto. MPG.
