I heard that people with 1.8 manuals are getting 35+ miles per gallon!

Dang it! I'm so jealous! Well, in Houston traffic, a manual would really suck so I guess I'll chalk up the lower mpg in my automatic to the convenience factor.

i live in a very rural small town and most of my driving is back road. so i almost prefer a stick. its also fairly hilly around here, and i like to coast so it make a manual more fun.

If I were you I would buy a R/T since it has AWD, with a stick. I would rather have an AWD vehicle for coastal, mountain, or hilly driving. I go to the coast a lot and it would be a lot easier to navigate the streets if I had an AWD vehicle. I also noticed that a lot of the locals have AWD cars. High population of Subaru's!

yeah, awd's sell big around here too. even with the crappy small town roads and even worse massachusetts winters i think i'll be alright with just fwd. i drove two snowy winters in a '95 jeep cherokee (stick, 4 cylinder, rear wheel drive) and i did ok.. plus i'm looking for the best mpg i can get.

Here in San Francisco it helps a lot. I rather have my AWD then have my car struggling to go up the hills.

OK question... my gauge for the MPG is NOT working right. There is NO way! It jumps from 31mpg to 17 mpg within like a mile...CONSTANTLY! Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm getting approx. 23 to 27 MPG. I was hopeing for more consistent MPG near 30, but I just don't know.

BJeffries... do you mean RPM's? My caliber doesn't have a MPG gauge ??

I have the Driver Convienance Group on mine. It came with Automatically-Dimming Rearview Mirror,Temperature and Compass Gauge,Tire Pressure Monitoring Display,Universal Garage Door Opener. I think it had something to do with that because it is in the same little window as the outside temperature and compass. I just hit the little plunger and it scrolls through all those things and the MPG and Miles until empty...not that they work correctly all the time
