i can relate to that. im used to barely 100 hp (i think the celi is rated 115 stock) and what youre saying is definitely noticeable. i can run mid-30's mpg on it if i accelerate moderately and shift around 2800. on the other hand if throw it around a bit and shift closer to 4500, i drop at least 6 mpg, more likely 8.

it really misses a 6th gear on the highway. 5th is short enough that if im going 65 or better on the highway, it actually gets to be less efficient than regular driving.

needless to say, im more than looking forward to driving something with well more than double the hp and lb-ft, and that extra gear.

I purchased my srt back in December and finally drove it today. (New York upstate winters), All I can say is I'm very impressed at the handling and acceleration. I've driven rear wheel vehciles most of my life and have a 1969 small block Camaro sitting in my garage. Most magazines gave it a bad rap, I'd like to questions some of the guys and ask them what the hell were you thinking!. Dodge has won me over!

exactly what my ealier "immature" statement was conveying this is my first dodge and i'm stoked to have the cSRT4.
For some reason, I have it in my head that the Cali has two overdrives, does the SRT4 have an overdrive? maybe i'm just on crack

I think that if Dodge had offered a package for the high-end Calibers, something akin to the Mazda3's Grand Touring package, they could widen their customer range a bit.

For example, heated seats, heated mirrors, folding mirrors, HIDs, LED tails, climate control A/C. Then just a few touches, lighted mirrors, the ability to unlock the doors from the passenger door, illuminated switches and fold down center armrest.

They should have kept the amber turn signals on the 08's as well, and throw in the side marker/turn signals (ala Euro models).

I would have paid for a package like that. Don't know how much it would have cost, though. But in my mind, these are the things that finish the car off.

Ideas

THOSE ARE SOME REALLY GOOD IDEAS. I BET IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH ADDING EXCESS WEIGHT OR SOMETHING.
I HAVE SMOKED SO MANY MS3's ON THE ROAD. YOU AIN'T LYING ABOUT THOSE SEATS.

srt4 bashing

I as well was unhappy with the bashing by some magazine writers, I was buying an 08 srt4 for many reasons, 4 doors and 2 kids (already own a minivan). I ordered in october and got it in January, snowed or rained every day for 3 weeks, this car did great in snow and the mileage is good enough to not complain at the pumps even putting in high test (26 mpg) is my current estimate rough estimate though and this is hard driving. The car begs for more rides great has plenty of room, and although I may be considered in this fat old guy department, over 35 is the only way I am in that club and I still love the srt4. 2 last things one I liked the seats better in the neon srt4, side blosters are huge you have to slide back into the seat (still happy though), one more thing I need a bike rack for occasional use for the roof, good one that won't scratch can't find one yet!
Oh yeah I am Canadian and always preach this but I love North American cars, thanks to the guys in Belvedere who built my car!

hey cSRT4! On behalf of fat old men everywhere, I resent that!

OK, I'm not that old or fat, but I'm over 40, and overweight! This car is the perfect blend of high performance, fuel economy and family space. And the price of admission is ludicrously reasonable. Not everyone my age can afford a 5-series or Jag to satisfy their need for speed!

Here, here.

I think you should watch what you say about MS3 owners, because in my opinion both the MS3 and CSRT4 are targeting the same market: people looking for a mix of great performance/fun-to-drive factor and practicality without breaking the bank.

I was ready to buy a CSRT4 in the fall but when they delayed the start of production and I needed a new car I bought an MS3. Although I still like the CSRT4 I am very glad that fate ended up pushing me into the Mazda. Phenomenal car. An absolute joy and thrill to drive. I love it. And there are many reasons that the car gets almost universally positive reviews.

BTW, I'm not fat, and I guess some people consider 34 to be old.
How you doing man , MS3 Is a nice car , but just wondering did you ever drive or race a CSRT 4 ? I've driven both and own the CSRT 4 . For some reason the CSRT4 is more for me . The MS3 seemed powerless in 1st and 2nd gear ..
