Just purchased an OBD Scan Tool

I purchased an OBD Scan tool from www.obdcom.com

I mainly purchased it to look for any trouble codes on my CSRT4 and my wife's Grand Caravan SXT. Works very well. Easy to use. Just connect it to the OBD2 port on the car and the other end of the cable connects to the USB port of any laptop. Turn the key to Run and launch the software. You can also monitor engine performance while driving (have your passenger do this actually

I found no trouble codes or any incomplete diagnostic tests. I was mainly worried that the Stage 1 would throw some type of hidden code during emissions testing. But no codes were shown and everything is fine. And you have the ability to clear any codes if found.

I heard that as well....but also heard you can. But I saw nothing in the diagnostics that would indicate a problem...everything ok wiht no codes. Still uncertain though

The main thing I was looking for was some type of hidden code. I had heard that the Stage 1 will show some type of hidden fault code...but no check engine light will appear. That is why I purchased the scanner. But no codes appeared. It was all clear with no problems and all self test had been completed and none were pending. I had the Stage 1 installed by the dealer...for $150.00!!!! A lot I know. Have had it installed for about a year now.

I'd be pretty certain the equipment used for emissions testing is a lot more sophisticated than something the public can buy. So just because you saw no code doesnt mean there can't be something there to throw a red flag.

all states/countries emmission test differently..

here in WI they take our cars on rollers, and test gascap.. heard others test at idle. (on this forum i heard that they "cant touch the gas")

True its different everywhere. In NY any OBDII car they just attach their system to the diagnostic port, no more rollers or sniffers.

This scan tool also checks all emission aspects of the car. One of the selling points is the fact you can check your car prior to an emissions test for any abnormal issues. You can then correct those issues, clear the codes, and the computer will re-run the tests to verify the repairs have been made. And like I said, all my emissions equipment showed fine and no codes were displayed. My previous vehicle was a 2004 Saturn VUE Redline and I had installed a K&N CAI. The label on the box cleary stated that it was for off-road use only. Yet I passed with no problems. MD uses the OBDII tests. I will have to run these tests again with the car at speed.

Make sure the scanner is OBD II CAN BUS compliant, or else it won't do anything with your car.

The Stage 1 will pass an emissions test if all they do is check for codes. If they use a gas analyzer to test the tail-pipe, it will not pass.
