Test

I ran 2 tanks on 87 and then 2 on 93. I felt a big difference on responce time. It could of been mental i guess. I swear the 93 did better when changing gears.

I haven't run any 87 yet. Two tanks of 87, followed by a tank of 93 seems to be working well so far.

I ran on 93 for the first 2500... then 89... and now I have 87 in the tank. Sometimes 89.

93 was about 4.30 a gallon here... it's about 4.17 now... so I am almost willing to start using that again. And yes.. I realize it only saves like 3 bucks.. but I could use that towards another gallon... another 25 miles. I just got a new job so money is slow for a while.. so I save every penny I can.

its so stinking hot here that I run 3 gal of 100 mixed with 91 for a full tank. cost about $4 more a tank... and its all good. didnt have any knock... but at 100* + every day I dont like the idea of running 87 and full boost in third.

Octane Levels

Up here in the great white north, octane levels higher than 91 are only widely available through Sunoco. I mix their 94 with the premium 91 from other gasoline suppliers. No knock.

Oh the great octane debate... the owner's manual "recommends" using 93 and states plain as day you can use what ever you like, it will just make the motor make less power. And I have to disagree with the above statement, the less octane you have the quicker the burn, that is why higher octane is more resistant to knock, it doesn't explode as quickly. Personally I am using 91 octane and it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference from the one tank of 94 I tried to the 91... the car still hauls ass!!

With the extreme heat we have in Arizona during the summer I have started noticing a very slight knock when I first get on it. The car adjusts quickly and it goes away but I do not want any knock.

I want this car to last at least 140K miles. (That is a little over 10 years on driving for me). I was going to keep my Mustang and drive it about 1/2 the time to keep the mileage lower on the SRT4. But I can't afford to keep up the maintenance and insurance on 4 cars. Plus the more I drive my SRT4 the more I love it, it sucks getting back into the slow v6 mustang.
