I would do the cold air intake first but a boost controller is a tempting option! It will be so new and no one will know what it can do? It makes 300hp using the new standard for calculating hp so it will surprise people what it can really do.

Cold air intake, headers, and full exhaust would be a good starting combo.

Ignorant again (remember, I'm just a math teacher LOL). What does a cold-air intake and a boost controller do? How'd you guys learn all this fancy stuff?

I can maintain and even fix 90% of all car probs as long as I can reach the site and have the parts, but that's where I'm limited to. Sigh..."I'm just a girl...."

Every car has an intake system that brings in air into the engine. Stock air intakes are normally big and have a lot of plastic. A cold air intake replaces this bulk of parts with a simple tube that connects to the engine and then connects to a filter. This allows the car to suck in a higher amount of airflow, which increases performance. Also the filter at the end of the tube normally is placed outside the engine bay within the front bumper, in front of the tire well. This allows the intake to take in colder air because it is not taking air from inside the engine bay where the engine is. Cold air is much better than hot air for your engine performance wise. The draw back is that you can now hear your car sucking in air and also if you go through a pool of water, you run the risk of water logging your engine if your intake gets submerged in water.

Correct me if I am wrong but a boost controller is used with turbochargers to regular the amount of air pressure the turbo is producing.

Hmmmm. We have a lot of water that pools during all our rain here in Houston. Not sure about risking that. Is the intake something that only mechanics can do or can a reasonably smart person can handle? It sounds like it really is a better option for your car... I should look into it.

I don't think one is available yet. But you can install a short air intake. The tubing is shorter thus leaving the intake filter still in the engine bay. The intake will still suck the same hot engine air it would normally take in with a stock intake, but it would have a higher air flow. You can do that with a reusable universal filter. K & N makes some of the best intakes and filters. If you Google K & N intakes you should find there website. I'm not sure if they have any short intakes for the Caliber yet.

I bought a cold air intake off of eBay for my Accord, and it came with instructions on how to install the intake. All you do is remove the old stock intake parts, and just bolt on the new one. The only thing I found hard is getting my hands and arms in hard to reach places to take out screws holding on the stock intake. I have taken in water into the engine from driving through a dip that was full of water. Made my car sputter a bit and lots of steam let off, but after a moment my car was fine.

The first thing I would go for is a blow-off valve. Next step would be getting a nice exhaust from turbo down unless the stock one is good enough. I plan on powder-coating the rims black and I guess that SRT painted red would be a nice touch. Tints all around and my black Caliber would be pretty much done for about a month or so.

Make sure you check your states laws. It might also vary by county.

In Indiana trucks, vans, and SUV's can have the lowest of 20% on the back windows but the front and passengers can't be lower than 35%.

On cars you can't have anything lower than 35% period. It has to do with the police being able to see what they are walking up to.

Of course you can still get the tint lower than that, you just risk the ticket and have to sign a waiver with the tint shop saying you know it is illegal.

Needless to say I have 20% on my Caliber I also have already had my "warning" ticket as well lol Got it 5 hours after getting it home front the shop yesterday lol Knew it was coming though so I don't care

Tint...

Well, we are in the heat of the summer here now.
I have yet to get my windows tinted much less any other mod.
I think I'm going to have to wait till school starts in the fall and our teacher pay goes up. I have one quote for $150 (after discount). I hope he still honors that in a few weeks.

I have to check the laws for Texas. Even at 35% that is much better than the factory windows!
