Smile Caliber SRT-4 Spark Plugs

After reading several of the NSRT posts, people that have tried all the different types of plugs, the NGK Iridium IX was the best choice. I'm sure there will be people that disagree. However, i put a set in.

Truely, smoothed out my idle. Seems to run smoother. Gapped at .040

I just installed a set today also, and I had similar results, much smoother idle and picked up a little better gas mileage too! I don't know why the factory uses the platinum plugs, the iridium plugs are much better in turbo cars.

yes you are correct. In my talon I tried the platinum plugs and the platinum actually broke off. Since then I ran iridiums. Just throwing it out there.

they are 25-30.

totally worth it. wether your stock or not. the factory plugs are platinum, that in its self if a reason to change the. platinum plugs are not good for turbo cars. second is for some reason the plugs from the factory have random gaps. mine were anywhere from 28 to 39, and most everyone who has checked has said their plugs where gapped like that too. almost as if dodge had 4 different hung over monkeys gapping them on a monday. switching to iridiums gave me and many other similar results to the re-flash. smoother idle, easier low rpm acceleration, and over all better drive. for $25 and 20 mins of my time, i'd say it was very worth it.

Yeah thats right, mine were gapped at .028 from the factory, I would guess most manufacturers are not going to take the time to check plug gap, however they should!

Can you get these plugs anywhere? The manual says gap to 0.03. Should I gap at this or 0.04?

The Gap

Goes like this - The larger the gap the better spark produced. Meaning, if you have an capable ignition system that is able to make a spark with a larger gap the better.

There this thing called spark blow out. Many times under high boosted cars you need a smaller gap. Because, the ignition is incapable of creating a spark with a larger gap. Thus, you need to reduce the gap.

So, with a good ignition system like the one's on our CSRT4's, you can increase the gap over factory. They are a coil on plug design, very effective. gap it to .04, get better burn & increase your gas mileage.

I put the same plug in too gapped at 0.040. Idle improved as well, can't make any mpg claims...there are just too many variables.
