No blow off in neutral..

Hey everyone. Just bought an 09 caliber a few months ago and this site has been fantastic in helping me with almost everyone one of my problems and questions. However, one I have not been able to find. For some reason my hks ssq does not blow off while in neutral. I have to be moving and I can hear it loud and clear. I have a k&n drop in as well and that's all. So far. Any ideas? Also. How much of a difference do those ngk plugs everyones talking about actually make? And last but no least, is it a big task to get a bigger brake assembly on the rear without too much trouble? Thanks a lot!

Re: No blow off in neutral..

That is normal for that BOV. I have the same one. You would really have to rev the engine pretty high to get the boost built in neutral to get a blow off.

Which I do not recommend. Espically if you have just started the vehicle and you want someone to hear it.

Re: No blow off in neutral..

rev the car in neutral and watch your boost gauge. The car does not allow the turbo to spool / build up boost in neutral. I have no idea how it does this (stupid electronics I guess) but I was hoping Stage1 would change that and it didn't. I too wish I could rev and blow off in neutral sometimes to show someone or whatever. SUX

...anyone know how the car does this and is there a way around it? ....probably not a god idea huh?

Re: No blow off in neutral..

it's because we have an internal wastegate. if we had an external WG it would blow off every time in neutral. Rev to like 5 or 6k and it will blow off. Mine does.

Umm, yes and no to that answer.

It depends on the set up of the turbo and external gate. Some do, some don't.

OP, you should be able to get it to vent. Just WOT till you see 4k on the tach, then lift. You should hear something, if not, I would take a look at the refference line you have hooked up to your BOV.

Hope this helps.

This is a video from .285caliber over on caliberforums.com, he made a few threads about it and here is a video of him using it.

I'm planning on buying this in a few months and taking it to RT to have them properly install it.

You can get them to open in neutral, but again, if there's no boost, there's nothing to "blow off" You generally can't get any (or not much) boost in neutral. This is why you have to manually pressurize your system to troubleshoot a boost leak.... or run it on a dyno... It needs a load to build any considerable boost.
