Anyone have solid MPG info?

Hi everyone. Just joined. Pretty much a forum newbie; I was in a Neon group back when I bought my '98 R/T, but that's it.

I am days away from buying a new Caliber SRT4. My daily commute is 200km round trip (124 miles), mostly highway. Does anyone have real economy numbers, from odometers and fillups, rather than the usual "I get xxx per tank"? With gas prices predicted to climb ever higher this summer, This matters to me.

I am hoping I can average over 30mpg(u.s.) which would be 36mpg imperial, on the highway, if I drive like an adult! Am I dreaming?

Thanks!

I'm on my second tank of gas, so this may not be the best indicator, so far the average fuel consuption is showing 11.4 Litres per 100 km or about 21 mpg using US gallons and 24 mpg with imperial gallons. I'm planning to do some long distance highway driving on the weekend, I'll let you know what the results are.

SRT-4 caliber MPG quote.

I am getting an easy 21 mpgs doing stoplight grand prix's and having fun. If your easy on the pedal I've gotten 24 around town and I saw 29.5 on a road trip to Skyline Drive.

I dont really have any solid numbers either, had the car not even a week (Black CSRT-4) but this Sunday I will be doing a drive from the Toronto area down to Pennsylvania so i may not get the best MPG reading because the car is so new but it should be relatively close. I will post after the trip with my numbers.

Thanks for all the replies! This looks like a good group. I hope X-Caliber's 29.5 road trip can be improved on for long highway trips. I take delivery of my black SRT4 today. I would still be interested in knowing what kind of mileage you all get, and I will put mine up here after a while.

You're definitely dreaming with getting 30+ mpg. I don't know what speeds you do on the freeway, but doing 70 mph you may or may not hit 30 mpg.

The best I've gotten is 37 mpg doing 50 mph on a long highway.

Doing 80 mph, I get anywhere from 24-27 mpg. My city driving I get about 22-25 mpg.

Snorkafunk: Thanks for the congrats. 5 days now, and loving it.

Greasemonkey: Don't forget Canadian Imperial Gallons are 20% more than US gallons, so 30 to me is 25 to you. (Except I just saw I said I hoped for 30 US in my first post, so I am contradicting myself!)

So far I am averaging 10 litres/100km, or 28 mpg (imperial). That translates to about 23 mpg US. That's with some lengthy highway stretches, but lots of short full-throttle shots too. So if I can calm down a bit once the initial thrill passes, low-thirties (imperial) does seem achievable on my highway commute, and 30 US is not out of reach on long trips.

I will post the results of my first measured tank soon. the above is from the dash readout.

First measured tank

So with some hard acceleration mixed with a long highway commute, my first measured tank yielded 26.6 MPG (Imperial) or 22.3 MPG US.
