oxygen sensor on 07 jeep compass question?

My car was recently a victim of a Holloween prank. Anyways to make a long story short my check engine light came on. When I took it to the dealership for an oil change the mechanic mentioned that the reason my check engine light was on is b/c of the oxygen sensor and that it wouldn't be covered under warranty b/c it was CUT (whatever that means). How do you cut an oxygen sensor and where is it? Is it possible that on holloween night some kids could've cut my o2 sensor? Is this grounds for it not being covered under warranty? How can I tell if the mechanic is telling the truth? How much would this cost?HELP!

Little early for Halloween isn't it?

Possibly someone was trying to steal your catalytic converter
that's the location your talking about, easy to crawl under
the Compass with side cutters.
I don't understand why they would not repair or replace it
abt $35.00 for a new one + labor, will cause a host of different
problems and symptoms.
Certainly not covered by warranty because it was vandalized
or as I said someone trying to take the cat.
