My SRT4 rattles more than any car I've ever been in. Dash rattles, both front door panels rattle, something towards the back rattles....

... But I guess that is what happens with all solid mounts the the Balance Shafts removed, lol

the only argument i'll agree with is that they're expensive.
You said it exactly... "rumored".
The GTi weighs right at 3,000 lbs. and is lucky to have 180 horsepower at the wheels... How is that a "drivers car".

I know I want a car with a better power to weight ratio than that.

Neon SRT-4 Loud.... It's a high revving 4 cylinder with a hair dryer on the backside of the motor... that's the way it's supposed to sound.

No Options... It came with all standard options... you could only add three things... Kicker System, Sunroof, and Side Air Bag Seats.

I'm friends with some guys at my local VW dealership, which also has Nissan, Subaru, and Hyundai, and the number 1 car that returns for service is the VW's, almost everyone I know with one of these cars have some sort of trouble from them.

If your friend has had all that happen to an 07, I'd reevaluate your defintion of a good driver. With the possible exception of the BOV, a blown turbo and a burnt clutch are sure signs of someone who either:

A: doesn't know how to drive a manual very well
B: doesn't know how to treat a turbo vehicle
or
C: a combination of the two

I'm not defending VW in the least but that just sends up red flags in my eyes.

That was my first assumption when he told me, that he was doing something stupid, but no he drives a manual almost better then anyone I know.
2. He knows more then turbos then I do thats for sure.

I honestly have no idea if they were his fault or not, but I know he is a damn good driver. So that is definitely not the reason for his problems.

VW Turbo problems

It's been well documented that VW had major problem with their 1.8 or 2.0 turbo's. In fact there was a recall. Don't remember which motor though.

I personally still like VW product. My old lady drives a Jetta VR6. Very quite and smooth. Very stable above triple digits.

Only thing i replaced was a battery & water pump. But the car is a 2001. So, it's been very reliable.

If you don't work on you own car, I wouldn't suggest buying german. The dealer makes you sign over your house before they will even look at your car. If you don't have a house, have your left nut ready.
